Last Update: 19th July  2016

We would like to thank the large number of families who attended one of our open sessions during Education Week.

Families who have expressed an interest in their child/ren being part of our 2017 Foundation class will be sent an offer to join us. This will happen at the beginning of term 3 with a request to respond to the offer and completion of enrolment forms by the 1st of September.

Our policy for enrolment is siblings first, then children whose closest school is Newlands and then, those who are interested in attending Newlands for our specialist curriculum(Spanish and Performing Arts).

Newlands Primary School is situated in West Preston opposite the new Coburg Hill development.  Our school is proud of the role we play in our community and we take pride in our welcoming atmosphere. At Newlands, students, teachers and parents all actively participate in the learning partnership.

We provide effective learning experiences within a stimulating and challenging environment. Our rich and extensive curriculum gives priority to the mastering of literacy and numeracy and places an emphasis on the global classroom. The life of our students is enriched through an exciting range of creative programs that include: Spanish, Visual and Performing Arts, Art Shows and the School Concert. Student learning is significantly enhanced by substantial access to Information and Communication Technologies with iPads fully integrated into learning areas at all levels. A healthy lifestyle is encouraged through PE lessons and an active sports program. We have extensive school gardens which include indigenous plantings at the front of the school and a school vegetable garden. Leadership and social skills are developed through School and House Captains, a Buddy Program, Public Speaking and Community Performances. Newlands Primary School strives to provide all students with a happy and active start to their school years in a secure atmosphere of warmth and creativity. We endeavour to provide a progressive curriculum with traditional values and promote an atmosphere where effort is valued and achievement is recognised.

Dates to remember:

  • Gymnastics begins on Tuesday 17th of April and concludes on Wednesday 22nd of June
  • Student free day – Tuesday 14th of June

All students who are eligible to attend a Victorian Government school may enrol at Newlands Primary School. Information regarding the enrolment of overseas students can be obtained from the International Studies Unit at DEECD.

To start primary school your child must turn five years of age (or older) by April 30th of the year they start school.

Enrolments are welcome at all levels of the school throughout the year. We aim to ensure that all students experience a smooth transition into the school with a minimum of disruption and maximum support, and encourage all new families to visit the school before your child begins.

Tours of the school with the Principal, Ross Dudgeon, are available by appointment by contacting the school on 9354 2928

We welcome visitors to observe our school in action and inspect our facilities and grounds.
