Parent-Teacher Meetings
A parent/teacher meeting has been organised for this term. This is an opportunity to meet with the teacher ‘briefly’ to discuss how your child is going and for parents to share relevant information with the teacher.
To make a booking please go to the website; www.schoolinterviews then enter the booking code 43D2P. Follow the prompts:
1. Enter your name
2. Enter your email address if you have one,
3. Enter the number of children then their name(s)
4. Then select the time or times you wish to meet with the teacher.

  • Foundation – Rae
  • Grade 1 – Laura
  • Grade 2 – Mulynda
  • Grade 3/4 – Sonya
  • Grade 5/6 – Graeme

Please make sure you have selected the correct teacher as listed above.
Due to time constraints we need to keep each meeting to TEN MINUTES in duration. We realise the meeting time is limited, so if parents require a longer meeting then we would ask that they make an appointment with the relevant teacher on another day that is mutually acceptable for both parties.
If you do not have access to the internet then please come to the office and Joy or Caitlin will assist.
Remember this is a first in service, so if you want the best time available then fill it in as soon as possible.

CPR Training – Rescheduled
Annually all staff must complete a CPR update as part of their teacher duty of care requirements. This year we are providing a limited number of places to our parent community. The training has been booked for Monday 12/05/2014; this will be confirmed and advertised in next week’s newsletter.

School Camp
We have had a terrific response to sign up for the Camp later this year. For this to go ahead we need ALL deposits into the office by Friday 21st March. If we cannot make the required number then the camp will be cancelled for 2014.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
This year we will be joining along with many schools across the state into the Premiers Reading Challenge. Sonya is setting it up and should be ready for children to access before the end of term.

Visual Arts News
Please remember to save the lids from your Jalna yoghurt containers and bring them in to school. They will be used in Art Class to make zoetropes. For more information see the visual arts blog:

Elephant Poo
The elephant poo is (definitely) being delivered this Friday! We hope to get rid of all it before school starts again on Monday morning.
Please spread the word in the community about the benefits of elephant poo for your garden! We will make sure we spread some around the school on Saturday morning when we are selling it off.
Bring a bag, a barrow, a ute or trailer to NPS on Saturday morning from 10.30-11.30 to get some for yourself. Pricing of the poo is dependent on the vessel but we are thinking something along the lines of….
$3-$5 a bag
$8-$10 a barrow
$25-$30 a trailer
See you then!

Easter Raffle
In the last two weeks of term we will be running an Easter Raffle. Keep an eye out for ticket books coming home early next week.
But right now, can you donate something to include in our prize hampers? Easter eggs, Easter gifts, non-perishable foods, or other completely non-related-Easter gift items are all welcome. Just pop your contribution in the box in the office foyer by the end of the week. A box will be set up in the foyer to collect your donations.

Masters BBQ – Saturday 29 March
There are still a few spots to fill for the Masters BBQ on Saturday 29 March. If you can spare an hour or so please let Melanie know or write in your name on the sign up sheet on the noticeboard in the quadrangle.

Woolworths BBQ – Wed 9 to Fri 11 April
The operators of the new Coburg Hill Woolworths have asked our school to run a BBQ outside the shop during their three-day opening celebrations. It will be a big operation to get this up and running during the week and during school holidays but Woolies are really making it worth our while – they will be providing all the materials so every single dollar we earn is profit free and clear. Can you:

  • Help out any time between 9am and 4pm on those three days – let me know if childcare would help
  • Take care of some children at your home on those days so other parents can serve on the BBQ
  • See if grandparents or other family members or friends would be willing to help the school out during those times.

Email me, leave a note in my pigeonhole at the office, or look out for the sign up sheet on the noticeboard.

Newlands Fete – Sunday 18 May
Newlands Primary School will be kicking off Education Week with a community fete. We already have plans for hot food, cake and coffee, kids’ games, entertainment, a plant stall, and some other great stalls.
If you have any ideas for how to make our fete a great family day that reflects the Newlands community please pass them on to one of these wonderful women:
Vanessa (Ornette & Ruben’s mum)
Tash (Lilia & Leroy’s mum)
Mandy (Pascal’s mum)
Rosa (Noah’s mum)
Mim (Ruby & Kai’s mum)

Parents & Friends Association AGM
We will be holding our AGM on Wednesday March 26 at 7.15pm in the multi purpose room.
All positions are open and in order to vote people need to sign the membership form and pay the $2.00 fee. We will put membership forms in a newsletter closer to the date.

Thank you very much to all those people who have already made a contribution to our Easter hamper raffle. Absolutely every little bit helps and we really appreciate you jumping on board so quickly.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the Fundraising Committee kick-off meeting on Monday night – Dave, Mandy, Kristalo, Rosa, Carin, Sarah, Vanessa, Tash, Mim & Melanie. It was brilliant to have nine or ten people around the table sharing ideas and laughs and food. Our school relies heavily on fundraising and your enthusiasm and willingness to get involved is going to make a real tangible difference to our kids. Thank you too to all those who weren’t able to make it on the night but have also volunteered to be part of our fundraising efforts.

The Directors of a new dental practice opening in Coburg Hill Shopping Centre are currently seeking local employees for 2 positions:
1) Dental Receptionist
2) Dental Nurse
See the attached position descriptions for more information.

We are coming towards the end of 1st term already! We have had a wonderful term with Stev and Tamara running circus and tennis lessons on Monday’s and Thursday’s. Just a reminder to parents and carers, you need to settle your accounts before the end of this term. If there are any issues please contact me.
On a more fun note, Bella and I will be doing some tie-dying in the last week of term. We will supply some cotton T-shirts, however if your child has a 100% white cotton item of clothing to bring in that will be much appreciated. T-shirts and singlets are best.
Thank you Caitlyn
