LAST DAY TERM TWO FRIDAY 26th JUNE
Last Updated: 12/05/2015
From the Principal
This week children in grades 3 & 5 will have completed the NAPLAN assessments for English and Mathematics. NAPLAN reports will be available in term 3.
We have organised for parents and prospective parents to visit the classrooms next week as part of Education Week. We have also included our Specialist teachers as part of Education Week. This means parents and prospective parents can also visit these classrooms and see the children in action enjoying the activities.
For those who may have recently (this week) visited the school website you may have noticed some changes. Sonya has updated the website a little so that the information is more up to date. The work is not complete this will happen over the coming weeks as we modify and upload material to the site.
Curriculum Day – Monday 15th June
Students are not to attend school on this day
Teachers will be at school on this day as part of their school duties. The day will be used for planning and professional development around teaching and learning. We ask that you make alternative arrangements for your child to be cared for on this day.
Currently teachers are preparing individual student reports as part of our reporting requirements. These reports happen in June and December each year. The reports will go home prior to the parent/teacher interviews that also happen each June.
Parent teacher interviews will be taking place in the last week of this term. To make a time to meet with the classroom teacher we will be using the same on-line process as we did last year – Student Interview. The on-line booking site will be open Monday 1st June @ 12.30pm. It will remain open until the day before the interviews.

Newlands Art Exhibition News
The biannual art exhibition will be held on Thursday October 29th (Term 4, week 4). This exhibition showcases the amazing work created by our talented students and will be a real highlight of this school year. If anyone is interested in volunteering to help organise this major school event could they please let me know. There are a number of ways to get involved including helping to mount and frame artwork, prepare the exhibition space, hang the work etc. A popular part of the last art show was the inclusion of a parent and friends gallery featuring work created by our wonderful school community. If anyone is interested in curating this component I’d love to hear for you.
You can contact me at Newlands on Mondays and Tuesdays or you can email a message to me via the school’s email.

COMMITTEES & GROUPS
Parents & Friends Association
The next meeting of the Newlands PS PFA will be on Thursday 28 May at 7:15. If you are a parent (or friend) and have an interest in helping the school, then come along.
At our last meeting we had an engaging discussion about the restocking of the library by parents and grandparents. This amazing volunteer effort has seen more kids borrowing more books and even the emergence of a Friday lunchtime chess club. We also discussed fundraising events for the year, ideas for the garden and ways that we could spend some of the money that the PFA has to improve our school.
What ideas do you have? We’d love to see you there.
If you have any questions or want to know how to join (it’s only $2) then feel free to contact us.
Second hand Uniform Stall & Silverbeet Sale
This Thursday, May 14, we will be holding a second hand uniform stall outside the office from 3:15 till 4:00pm.
All uniforms will be $2 so make sure you pop past for some bargains. We will also be selling the remaining silverbeet from the school veggie patch for $2 a bunch.
See you there.
