Last Updated: 26/05/2015
From the Principal
Thank you to those parents and visitors, who did take advantage of the opportunity to visit the classrooms during Education Week. I would also like to acknowledge the teachers and their efforts especially Bianca, Mulynda and Akash for highlighting our Arts and Spanish programmes now operating for 2015.
Great effort kids! Again Newlands kids stepping up and having a go. All of you should be very proud of your personal efforts to compete, well done!
Curriculum Day – Monday 15th June
Students are not to attend school on this day
Teachers will be at school on this day as part of their school duties. The day will be used for planning and professional development around teaching and learning. We ask that you make alternative arrangements for your child to be cared for on this day.
Currently teachers are preparing individual student reports as part of our reporting requirements. These reports happen in June and December each year. The reports will go home prior to the parent/teacher interviews that also happen each June.
Parent teacher interviews will be taking place in the last week of this term. To make a time to meet with the classroom teacher we will be using the same on-line process as we did last year – Student Interview. The on-line booking site will be open Monday 1st June @ 12.30pm. It will remain open until the day before the interviews.
As many of you would be aware there is a very important investigation currently taking place into the financial operations of the Department of Education and Training. The findings so far have been very disturbing and extremely disappointing. As principal of your school I feel angry that these people have robbed schools of funds that was for the education of your kids. The impact of this investigation I hope we will see greater transparency in the operations of Education Department; something akin to what they expect of schools, school councils and principals.

A special mention goes to Nicholas Cotugno-Morrison and Zane Cresswell who placed within the top 10! and will be attending the Inner/North Moreland Divisions on June the 10th 2015. Also to Ornette Farnell and Alexander Raftopolous who placed within the top 15 in their age groups and will be emergency runners for the next division. Well done and we wish you all the very best of luck boys!

Library Working Bee
Saturday May 30 from 1.30-4.00. The Newlands Library Working Group have made some brilliant changes to our library: a neat and orderly space, fundraising for new books, managing a new borrowing system and excellent access to the library during lunchtimes and from next week; after school on Monday!
There are lots of lovely new books that need cataloguing and covering. If you are unable to help out at NPS during the week this is the PERFECT opportunity to spend some time in the library, chat with other parents and get through a long list of much needed jobs.
Please share this with other friends and family members and if you can’t give up your whole afternoon an hour is of your time is very welcome.
Little Learners at Newlands!
Each Monday from 9.00 -10.30am
‘Little Learners at Newlands’ is a play based learning program for 0 – 5 year olds and their parents/ carers. Little Learners is held on Monday mornings in the Aftercare Room from 9am – 10:30am during term time and is facilitated by a teacher from our school. It includes stories, singing, music, art and craft activities and developmental play. This is a free program offered by our school to help support young families in our community so please spread the word!
