From the Acting Principal
It was great to see everyone arrive at school on Monday refreshed and with big smiles on their faces, ready to begin a new term. The weather at the end of the holidays certainly gave everyone an opportunity to get outside and enjoy some time in the sunshine and warmth.
This certainly is going to be a busy term. I will update the school website on a weekly basis so that you can keep track of what is happening at school.

We would like to welcome back the Stewart family who have been overseas since term 1 2014. It has been great to listen to the children recount stories of what they did during their time overseas.

Just a reminder that Newlands P.S. is a Sunsmart school. This means that all students are required to wear the school coloured broad-brimbed hat during terms 1 and 4, when outside. These hats are available from the school uniform shop which will next be open on Monday 19th of October.

Friday the 9th of October will be our first Waste Free Lunch Day at Newlands.
During term 3 the students in Grade 3/4 learnt about Sustainability. One of the suggestions they made on how we at Newlands can be more sustainable was to introduce a waste free lunch program across the school. Sometimes this type of program is referred to as a Nude Food Day. We will be running Our Waste Free Lunch program every Friday during term 4 and during this time will investigate how we can extend it further next year. This website will give you some ideas on how you can prepare a waste free lunch for you child/ren.

We did not put a GPS tracker on Ross but we do know that at this time he is somewhere in the French countryside.

Readathon Wrap Up
Well, our school read-a-thon is now over and we would like to congratulate and thank everyone that participated.  A total of 36 little readers participated in the read-a-thon and a total of 301 hours of reading occurred – a whopping 21 hours per day. Well done everyone.  Also, the Book Week parade was a great success and the costumes were awesome – l particularly liked Wolverine (Mr. Graham)!
A special thanks to our sponsors –
The Kids Bookshop
Fishpond.com
Brunswick Bound
These companies helped us ensure each little reader went home with a book, so if you are looking for a book, think of these companies, as they helped us raise money for our school.
Also, thanks to Kirsty Murray for her continued support – for creating our wonderful library and helping to donate books.  Much love to Megan Feeley and Graham and the Newlands artists involved in creating the certificate that everyone received with the book.
It was great to see our school community share in the love of reading – l’m looking forward to hearing how everyone went in the Premiers Reading Challenge.
